Baphomet
Conceived as both light and dark, grotesque and yet beautiful, the versions of each creature form a dialogue with one another, much as in the alterations of the ego. Translating the sub-conscious into color, form and imagery, these creatures, tied to mythology, manifest both anthropomorphism and dehumanization, while revealing my attraction to the visual details of anatomy, bones, skeletal, and muscular makeup.
In Baphomet, 2020, an angel with wings, the head of a goat, illustrates the binary elements and equilibrium of opposites - human / animal, male / female, good / evil, light / dark. In some presentations, it displays a hermaphrodite struggling with the assertive and dynamic inner masculine energy, (animus) vs. feminine, female energy (anima), that looks inward as a receptacle.
